Happy New Year - Update On Buhl Quilt from Log Cabin Quilter

Happy New Year!  Even though I am writing this at 8:50 pm on New Year's Eve, I am hearing fire crackers go off.  That will go on until after midnight.  I feel sorry for the pets that are afraid of the noise.

The snowman quilt is what is now displayed on the large footstool in the family room. It is not a new quilt.   I made it in 2013 from a Joined At the Hip pattern.

The first of the month and time for a Buhl quilt update.  I am working on the right border.  The block of ...

Scrappy Hats Quilt! from Quilt Doodle Doodles...

I'm a little slow, but I finally have my Scrappy Hats quilt done! I got hung up on doing the binding, my least favorite part of completing a quilt. I also decided to make a flanged binding instead of the traditional binding method I wrote in the pattern. I'm really happy with how it turned out. In time to display for Christmas. I'll actually have it out all winter long since we'll have snow until March, it's Minnesota. I love how happy and bright it turned out. It'll brighten up those winter days ...

Scrappy Hats QAL Day 15 from Quilt Doodle Doodles

Welcome to Day 15

Whew, it's already day 15! Today we will work on noses... snowman noses. I pulled a fat quarter out of my fabric stash.... I had already cut into it from a previous project so it was more like a fat eighth. We will make 13 noses for our snowman blocks. In the pattern I have you do your noses using a fusible method using Heat N Bond fusible web. In this method you will trace all of your noses onto the paper side of the fusible web. Iron this onto the wrong side of your ...

Scrappy Hats QAL Day 14 from Quilt Doodle Doodles

Welcome to Day 14

Whew, it's already day 14! Today we will complete the last snowman block. It's gone so fast! I hope that you have been having fun creating the scrappy hats for your snowman blocks! I've enjoyed seeing your blocks so far on facebook and Instagram.  Today's block will be the most challenging because the pieces are small but it is well worth the effort! Today we will make a star brimmed hat! It's one of my favorites in this quilt. Since this is the last hat, you can have fun and make ...

Scrappy Hats QAL Day 11 from Quilt Doodle Doodles

Welcome to Day 11

Whew, it's already day 11! Happy Friday everyone! Doing a little quilting or stitching is a great way to kick off the coming weekend! Today's block strip is made up with scrappy triangle squares. The scrappier the better. It will take about half an hour to complete. While working on mine, I used all of the fat quarters I had set aside for this quilt excluding the fabric that I used for this hats 'top'. I love the scrappiness of this block and love how it ties all the colors together in one block ...

Scrappy Hats QAL Day 10 from Quilt Doodle Doodles

Welcome to Day 10

I hope that you are enjoying the snowman blocks so far. There's thirteen snowmen blocks all together. I tried to arrange the directions from easiest to hardest blocks. If you are new to quilting, this is a good skill builder for you. It's also a great stash buster if you are only pulling from your fabric stash to do this quilt. I am using a fat quarter bundle that I have been hoarding for a couple of years now. Today's block is a Flying Geese block, we are going to make 6 ...

Scrappy Hats QAL Day 9 from Quilt Doodle Doodles

Welcome to Day 9

Our blocks are coming along nicely and it's fun to see everyone's progress! Today's block is a twist on a flying geese block, Flying Geese Diamonds. I use four different colors for this strip giving the illusion of two toned diamonds. You can use whatever color fabrics you want or you can follow the quilt layout sheet and use colors as pictured. This is the first scrappy hat brim strip in a series of Flying Geese strips, there'll be a couple more.

I know it might feel weird to be working on ...

Scrappy Hats QAL Day 8 from Quilt Doodle Doodles

Welcome to Day 8

Today's hat brim uses an hour glass block. A classic pieced block. We will use an easy technique to make our hour glass block without have to cut any separate triangles. Allow an hour for sewing time even though it may not take you very long to make this block. I hope that you are enjoying your sewing time every day. Just think, we are over half way thru with our snowman blocks. I really enjoy my quiet time spent in my sewing room., I usually listen to an audiobook as I sew. It's ...

Scrappy Hats QAL Day 7 from Quilt Doodle Doodles

Welcome to Day 7!

For todays block we will make a striped hat brim. It reminds me of a candy cane stripe and peppermint. I love stripes so this hat brim is one of my favorites. It won't take very long to make, I would allow a half an hour to complete today's block. I used a red and then the same white background fabric that I used for my pinwheel block. But you can pull any colors you want for your striped hat brim. Have fun with it! So go and grab a little snack to stash ...
